Anika Elizabeth

Bittersweet Symphony

Monday was my grandmother's funeral. It was also the day of our newest niece's birth.
After the world's worst pregnancy (she had hyperemesis gravidarum through her entire pregnancy), my sister experienced the world's worst birth (probably not, but it was pretty terrible, and I was there for the entire thing). She was in hard labor for 40 hours, her epidural didn't work but instead gave her a migraine, she puked more than anyone who hadn't eaten in 30 hours should have been able to puke, she was exhausted from being awake for 40 hours, spent 3 hours pushing, and lets face it, who wants to be in labor while their grandma is being buried??

Finally, 9:54 pm on November 12, Anika Elizabeth (her middle name is after me!) was born. Judging from the pregnancy and labor/delivery, this little one is going to be a stinker.

Even though I already knew it, Andy reinforced the fact that he really is the best husband out there. He drove 2 hours each way to Wisconsin to attend the funeral and stepped in at the last minute as a pallbearer. That is love my friends.
