meh.

This past weekend, from Friday night until Sunday evening we got around 18 inches of snow. They are now predicting that we will be getting another 12-20 inches between tomorrow and Saturday. I am so not looking forward to this; we spent hours (literally!) shoveling Saturday, Sunday and, (thanks to the plow that pushed a couple feet of the heaviest dirtiest snow ever into our driveway) yesterday. With any luck I'll get snowed in and miss a day or 2 of work this time around.

Yeah right.

grass dilemmas

Over the weekend Andy and I started thinking about what we wanted to do with the yard this summer. Last year, since we had just moved in at the very end of April, we just went with what the previous owner had planted. We did manage a small vegetable garden in the back, but it was nothing spectacular; we have a city lot. Thus, we don't have a big yard. Lame.

Anyways, we're toying with the idea of re-seeding the grass in the backyard. It is currently, well, will be (currently it is covered in snow) over-run with creeping charley. I hate it and it would be so nice to get rid of it, but that means that we wouldn't be able to use the back yard for much of anything all summer. AND from the little research I've done, I found out that many times it doesn't even all die with one treatment (and you should only do one treatment a year) so we'd have to give up our backyard for 2 summers. I'm just not sure that I can do that! It would be nice to have a yard of only-grass, but is it worth it?

This photo has nothing to do with anything, but I love it. It was taken in early December.

Junk mail, fireplaces and househunting

You know it's bad when they're predicting a high of -2 for Saturday. I wish I could just lock myself in the house and not go anywhere all weekend. At least I don't have the mail man's job and have to walk from door to door for hours delivering what is most likely 97% junk mail.

Holy hell. I'm glad we had the furnace serviced this morning. At least we should be able to keep warm inside. Know what I find ironic? When we were househunting, we made a list of our "musts" in a house. One of Andy's (okay, mine too) MUSTS was a fireplace. If you've been to our house you know we don't have a fireplace. It's times like these when I wish we did. Maybe we should get one of those crappy plug-in ones........nah............maybe our next house will have a real one. A real wood-burning fireplace.
