Tuesday Afternoon Memories

Probably one of my first childhood memories involved my older sister Jessica and a nest of killdeer eggs.

Each Spring, we would always get flocks of killdeer in our neighborhood. They would lay eggs on this big open area of grass in our yard. Well, they were always very hard to see (grass and stuff would mostly hide the eggs, and the momma & dadda killdeer weren't always around to warn you when you were approaching a nest). So anyways, one day my sister and I (I was wearing a royal blue sweatshirt & sweatpants with black ribbing, give me a break, I was like 2!) were playing in the yard. All of a sudden Jessica tells me that whatever I do, DON'T TAKE A STEP BACKWARDS!! Of course, because she told me NOT to, I did.....and squash. I smashed a nest of 4 killdeer eggs. oops. I had no idea what I had just done, so I just stood there as Jess ran to the house screaming & crying for our mom.

But really, what were they thinking, laying their eggs on the ground where they can so easily get smashed? Strangely enough, over the years they've faded away and I don't think killdeer even come around to the neighborhood anymore. Maybe they too remember that sad day.

Underh2o worlds

Last Friday night we went to the underwater worlds at the mall of america. Andy had been there a few times, but it was a first for me. Can I just recommend that if you ever go, Friday evening around 8pm is the best time to go; there was barely anyone there. We definitely wouldn't have lasted 2 hours if there were screaming kids running amok.

This kinda freaked me out a little bit.
Entering the tunnel. We both about tripped over that damn moving floor. You'd think that after Andy almost bit it that I'd be more careful, but folks, I'm just not that bright. We actually went through the tunnel twice because there were so few people around.
This was at the very end. There was a sign on the outside of the tank "See if you can spot the Octopus!" We were lookin and lookin, and could NOT find it. Finally we realized, after the 2 rather "hefty" people were standing next to us left (to take a photo of themselves wedged back in a corner. Seriously, she wedged herself in the corner. We were wondering if she got stuck), the octopus was revealed! It looked disgusting. So disgusting actually, that I couldn't help but to share!
